It's possible to trade profitably on the Forex, the nearly $2 trillion worldwide currency exchange market. But the odds are against you, even more so if you don't prepare and plan your trades. According to a 2014 Bloomberg report, several analyses of retail Forex trading, including one by the National Futures Association (NFA), the industry's regulatory body, concluded that more than two out of three Forex traders lose money. This suggests that self-education and caution are recommended. Here are some approaches that may improve your odds of taking a profit. Prepare Before You Begin Trading Because the Forex market is highly leveraged -- as much as 50 to 1 -- it can have the same appeal as buying a lottery ticket: some small chance of making a killing. This, however, isn't trading; it's gambling, with the odds long against you. A better way of entering the Forex market is to carefully prepare. Beginning with a practice account is helpful and risk-free. While you're trading in your practice account, read the most frequently recommended Forex trading books, among them Currency Forecasting: A Guide to Fundamental and Technical Models of Exchange Rate Determination, by Michael R. Rosenberg is short, not too sweet and highly admired introduction to the Forex market. Forex Strategies: Best Forex Strategies for High Profits and Reduced Risk, by Matthew Maybury is an excellent introduction to Forex trading. The Little Book of Currency Trading: How to Make Big Profits in the World of Forex, by Kathy Lien is another concise introduction that has stood the test of time. All three are available on Amazon. Rosenberg's book, unfortunately, is pricey, but it's widely available in public libraries. "Trading in the Zone: Master the Market with Confidence, Discipline and a Winning Attitude," by Mark Douglas is another good book that's available on Amazon, and, again, somewhat pricey, although the Kindle edition is not. Use the information gained from your reading to plan your trades before plunging in. The more you change your plan, the more you end up in trouble and the less likely that elusive forex profit will end up in your pocket. Diversify and Limit Your Risks Two strategies that belong in every trader's arsenal are: Diversification: Traders who execute many small traders, particularly in different markets where the correlation between markets is low, have a better chance of making a profit. Putting all your money in one big trade is always a bad idea. Familiarize yourself with ways guaranteeing a profit on an already profitable order, such as a trailing stop, and of limiting losses using stop and limit orders. These strategies and more are covered in the recommended books. Novice traders often make the mistake of concentrating on how to win; it's even more important to understand how to limit your losses. Be Patient Forex traders, particularly beginners, are prone to getting nervous if a trade does not go their way immediately, or if the trade goes into a little profit they get itchy to pull the plug and walk away with a small profit that could have been a significant profit with little downside risk using appropriate risk reduction strategies. In "On Any Given Sunday," Al Pacino reminds us that "football is a game of inches." That's a winning attitude in the Forex market as well. Remember that you are going to win some trades and lose others. Take satisfaction in the accumulation of a few more wins than losses. Over time, that could make you rich!

CHRISTMAS SPICE CAKE WITH EGGNOG BUTTERCREAM

Wéll, it’s héré.  Réady or not.  Thé big guy in thé réd suit is chécking his list, loading up his sléigh and gétting réady for a busy ridé around thé world.  Méanwhilé, wé’ré ovér héré in Boston chécking our shopping lists, twicé, bécausé facing that crowd twicé is not on anyoné’s nicé list.

 Thé happy to my holidays.  I’vé madé this spicé caké, hmmm, roughly 5 timés this month.  Trust mé, my pants arén’t happy about it, but my mouth is doing just spéctacularly.  Luckily my coworkérs aré véry willing to tést thé samplés.  Arén’t théy just thé bést?
INGRéDIéNTS
CHRISTMAS SPICé CAKé
  • 2 1/2 cups all purposé flour
  • 2 téaspoon baking powdér
  • 2 téaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 téaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 téaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 téaspoon ground gingér
  • 1/2 téaspoon ground nutmég
  • 1/2 téaspoon ground clové
  • 1/4 téaspoon puré ground black péppér
  • 1 tabléspoon unsulphéréd molassés
  • 1 cup végétablé oil
  • 1 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup unswééténéd applé saucé
  • 4 largé éggs
  • 2 téaspoons puré vanilla

éGGNOG BUTTéRCRéAM
  • 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsaltéd buttér
  • 4 1/2 cups conféctionér’s sugar
  • 7 tabléspoons éggnog
  • 1/2 téaspoon ground nutmég
  • 1/4 cup héavy créam
WHITé CHOCOLATé GANACHé
  • 1 cup whité chocolaté chips
  • 1/2 cup héavy créam

INSTRUCTIONS
CHRISTMAS SPICé CAKé
  1. Préhéat ovén to 350°F.  Gréasé and flour 3 8-inch caké pans, sét asidé.
  2. In a médium sizé bowl, combiné flour, baking powdér, baking soda, salt and spicés (cinnamon through black péppér). Whisk togéthér and sét asidé.
  3. In thé bowl of a standing mixér, or using a largé bowl with a hand héld mixér, add light brown sugar, végétablé oil, molassés and applé saucé.  Créam togéthér on médium spééd, making suré théré aré no lumps léft from thé brown sugar.  Add éggs and vanilla, mix on low spééd 1 to 2 minutés until incorporatéd.
  4. Working in thréé batchés, add thé dry ingrédiénts to thé wét ingrédiénts on low spééd.  Mix to combiné ingrédiénts, scraping down thé sidés of thé bowl whén nécéssary.
  5. Dividé thé caké battér événly bétwéén thé thréé pans.  Baké at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutés until a toothpick comés out cléan.
  6. Lét caké cool and préparé thé frosting.  Oncé caké is complétély cool, frost éach layér and top and sidés of thé caké.  Oncé frostéd, lightly drip thé cooléd ganaché ovér thé sidés of thé caké.  Pour ganaché ovér thé top and lightly smooth.  Optional:  Oncé ganaché has sét, lightly sprinklé top with spicés.
éGGNOG BUTTéRCRéAM
  1. Créam thé buttér on médium-high spééd until palé and fluffy.  Réducé spééd to low, slowly adding conféctionérs sugar oné cup at a timé.
  2. Add éggnog oné tabléspoon at a timé, raising spééd to médium.  Add ground nutmég and béat for 2 minutés to incorporaté.  Réducé spééd to add héavy créam without splashing, slowly incréasé spééd médium-high to whip thé créam into thé frosting.  Béat for 1 to 2 minutés until frosting is light and fluffy.
WHITé CHOCOLATé GANACHé
  1. In a small saucépan, bring héavy créam to a simmér.  Pour hot créam ovér whité chocolaté chips in a héat proof bowl.  Stir with a spatula until smooth.  Lét sit for 10-20 minutés until cool but still liquid.  Thé warmér thé chocolaté ganaché is, thé longér your drips will bé.  How long you cool it is a mattér of préféréncé and patiéncé.
